Say goodbye to those acne breakouts
I can teach you a thing or two about common everyday acne breakouts. For one, repeated touching of the face (by any source) can and will contribute to acne breakouts. What I mean by repeated touching is placing the hand on the face, allowing your phone to touch your face, bangs that touch your forehead, and any gear needed for sports and workout routines. Our skin operates so that the oil gland secrets oil through the hair follicle up to the surface of the skin. Repeated contact with other objects (hands, phones, caps, headbands etc) can push the oil back down into the follicle, or squeeze the follicle until it becomes irritated and inflamed.
A few common motivators for breakouts are as follows:
• Sleeping on a pillowcase that contains oils from your hair. Ladies, it is so important that you launder your pillowcases weekly to get rid of hair and face oils, and any dirt in general. You may not realize it but those pillowcases harbor dirt and oil that is transferred from your face on a nightly basis. It will get transferred back onto your face the following nights and will worsen those pesky zits.
• Hopefully you’re already doing this, but if not, please know that is extremely necessary to wash your face thoroughly every night (and moisturize) before going to bed. Oil is pushed through the hair follicle throughout the day and sleeping with that oil on your face (along with dirt from the atmosphere) will worsen the state of your skin because it’s ground into the pores.
• One overlooked idea is to make sure you wash your makeup brushes often and use a mild shampoo (or an anti-bacterial shampoo) to do so. Our makeup brushes conceal oils and other bacteria that will do more harm than good to our skin.
Make it a common practice to purchase products that are water-based, oil-free, or non-comedogenic. This includes all skin care and cosmetics product purchases. The goal is to minimize adding any extra oil to your skin and exacerbating the problem.
Some women have taken vitamin and herbal supplements to clear up acne breakouts and prevent acne scars. Those include Primrose oil (great for hormonal breakouts), Vitamin C, and Vitamin B. Hair, Skin and Nail vitamins are also good too because they help make sure you have the necessary nutrients in your system to produce healthy skin. In the past I've suffered from cystic acne and have had major success with an acne treatment called Retin-A. When I started using it, my skin was extremely sensitive during the first 3 months, but if used properly, it will give you skin that is "to die for". By the way, I use it on my back to clear up "backne" breakouts!
One last tip is to drink LOTS of water to keep your skin looking nice, youthful, and clear!
