Use the best concealer to cover it up!

The best concealer is important for good coverage. You can use it under foundation to hide those baggy eyes, pimples, and other blemishes. It comes in liquid bottles and tubes (which are thinner and great for drier skin), sticks and compacts (which are thicker and work well with oilier skin). Cover that spot with these concealers!

Picking the right color is pretty simple. Most ethnic skin types need a yellow-based shade, so be sure to try those first. Always select a shade that is one step lighter than your natural skin color. If you tend to have significant dark eye circles, then choose a shade that is more pink in color. This helps to neutralize the blues that are so obvious in darker under eye circles.

Even the best concealers can be tricky because if it’s too light, you look like you have a halo around the blemish. If it’s too dark, you’ve created more darkness and drawn more attention to the area. Choose one that is slightly lighter than your regular skin color - the foundation that you apply over it will even it out.

Like all types of makeup, it’s best to apply concealer so that you’re making sure you receive enough coverage, but not too much. It does a wonderful job making imperfections disappear, but the trick lies in making it disappear too. Make sure you blend the outer edges! Remember, this product can be thinned out with moisturizer, foundation, or water.

If you use it as a highlighter or to cover dark areas, it is best to start your makeup routine with it. Then, the rest of your makeup can be applied over the complexion. You can also use it as a primer for your eye shadow or lipstick, and your color application will be even and last much longer.

When you apply it, start with a small amount, either on your finger, wand applicator or makeup brush. Apply to the area you would like to cover and blend well. If you use a foundation, you can add extra coverage and balance the area by applying the foundation over the concealer, and then a layer of face powder to seal it in.

Even if you are not using a foundation, always pat with powder to keep your imperfection hidden. If you’re having trouble deciding whether or not to use a wand applicator, makeup brush, or your finger to apply your best concealer, remember this: Brushes and wands are excellent for areas that require more precise application. Now go ahead and cover up!

The Best Concealer Types

Solid Cream Stick: This provides full coverage, so it is perfect for blemishes and skin discolorations. It is hard to blend, so it’s not the best option for under the eye. If you choose to use this for the eye area, swipe a little bit onto the back of your hand. Your body heat will warm the product, thus thinning it out and making it much easier to apply and blend.

Pot Concealer: Similar to the Solid Cream Stick because it also provides full coverage. It blends better and is a more moisturizing form which makes it great for under the eye. If you find it difficult to blend, but want to use for the eye area, follow my suggestion for Solid Cream Stick.

Tube Concealer: This is creamier and the easiest to blend which makes it more useful, especially if you have different types of skin problems. This is great for the eye area!

Wand Concealer: This is the lightest formula, which makes it great for touch ups but not the best for overall coverage.

Pencil Concealer: This is perfect for covering tiny skin imperfections. Just "draw" to hide.

Highlighting Pens: Highlighting pens are a new product to the cosmetic industry so a lot of cosmetic companies haven’t included it in their lines yet. They don't actually hide or cover any imperfections, they reflect the light to bring out the caved in areas. This is perfect for dark circle touch-ups and shadows caused by bags or wrinkles. As with any product, it's always best to thoroughly evaluate your situation and what you hope to accomplish first. If it makes you feel better, visit your favorite cosmetics counter to sample their testers.

Whatever your best concealer is, wear it for a day to see if you like it or not. Be sure to apply your foundation on top of it to see if they work well together. Most companies have excellent return policies, so confirm it before you buy. You deserve to feel comfortable with every purchase you make. The more knowledge you have, the better.

Now put your best face forward, look fabulous, and feel confident!
