The Best Lipstick Types
I’m sure you have an idea about the best lipstick color you’re interested in – right? If you’re anything like most women, you want to be informed about the performance of your product, which can depend on your lifestyle. The best lipsticks come in a variety of colors, but not all of them will react the same once placed on your lips. You’ll get very useful information about the different types here:
◈Satin or Sheer: This is a good choice if you have dry lips. It has a high concentration of oil, so it provides a lot of moisture, and you will have to reapply it often. The product looks much darker in the tube than it will on your lips. Think of it as a lipgloss in a tube form! Your lips will have a shiny, glossy appearance upon applying.
◈Moisturizing: Another good choice if you have dry lips. It typically contains ingredients like aloe, vitamin E and glycerin, which are great for hydrating the lips. Moisturizing lipsticks are a lot like Satin/Sheer in that you will have to reapply it often, and it will leave you with a shiny look.
◈Crème or Amplified: Compared to other types, Crème lipstick usually contains more wax like Candelilla, so your lips won’t dry out as fast. It reminds me of the Satin/Sheer formula, but with more color, and less shine. If you find that your lips dry out quickly, just add a bit of clear lip gloss on top for a shine boost. One of my favorites!
◈Matte: Provides intense color that is flat instead of shiny, but the color lasts much longer. Because it is less emollient, it will probably dry out your lips. To avoid this, try dabbing a bit of clear gloss on top for shine. If you don’t want any shine, then you can try applying a moisturizing lip product as a base before applying.
◈Frosted: Normally contains a light-reflecting ingredient that gives off a sparkly, iridescent appearance. It is a lot like Matte lipsticks because it can be drying, so you may want to consider applying a clear gloss or moisturizing base for extra shine or moisture. A very fun and playful style!
◈Long-wearing: You may prefer this if you’re constantly on-the-go, and don’t have time to fuss about your makeup. This will typically last from four to six hours, but it is similar to the Matte formula because it is less emollient, so you may find it drying to your lips. Some long-wearing lip products come with a clear lipgloss attachment for extra shine. ◈Lipgloss: My favorite! Because it contains glycerine, it adds shine to the lips and comes in many different colors. You will find that you have to reapply often because of the gloss factor.

The Best Lipstick Tips and Tricks
Choose your best lipstick based on your need, and have a few colors in mind before venturing off to purchase anything. The most common situation I witness is women coming to the makeup counter looking to “try a new color”, and picking a color that is in the same range as the ones they already own. Take a risk and try something completely new – you’ll thank yourself later.
If your favorite cosmetics line has testers available, I highly recommend that you try the lipstick on your lips, instead of testing it on your hand or inside of your wrist. You want to know that it looks like on you before purchasing. PLEASE NOTE: If you choose to test the lipstick on your lips, make sure the sales clerk dips the lipstick in rubbing alcohol to disinfect, and then swipe it on a paper towel a few times to “shave” off the top layer. Testers are left out in the open for customers to try, so you need to protect yourself against bacterial infections.
