Top 5 Eye Makeup Tips you must know

Let’s cover the “dos and don’ts” of eye makeup tips so that you enhance your look and gain more experience:

1. Enhance your eyeshadow: If you notice your eye makeup fading away or disappearing during the day, try applying a base such as a primer, eye paint, or some other water-resistant product. This is one of those eye makeup tips that go unnoticed because it’s fairly new. Not only will the color last all day, but the color will have more ‘pop’. I’m a huge fan of wearing a base because I have oily skin and without it, my eyeshadow will crease and totally lose the effect I achieved earlier.

2. Line your eyes: If you’re using liquid eyeliner it’s critical to apply it with a steady hand. Using long, quick strokes, try ‘connecting the dots’ until you’ve covered the entire lash line. If you want a smoother appearance, apply eyeshadow with an angle brush over the dry liquid line to soften. If your preference is pencil liner, you can apply using short, quick strokes until you’ve covered the entire lash line. Feel free to leave it as is or apply an eyeshadow over it for a smoother, more-defined look. To line your bottom lashes: for a softer look, use eyeshadow and blend the line until it appears softer.

3. Straight eyelashes: Use an eyelash curler! Our Asian beauties often have straight eyelashes that grow downwards, so an eyelash curler is your friend. They can be purchased at any supermarket or beauty supply store. The heated lash curlers can be located at Sephora or other cosmetics supply stores. Tip: you can warm your metal curler by ‘warming’ it with your blow dryer for 10-15 seconds, and it will have the same effect as the heated curlers. Be sure to dab the curler on your hand to make sure it’s not too hot for your eyes because you don’t want to burn yourself.

4. Brushes: This will be the most helpful advice I can give you regarding eye makeup tips: use an application brush for applying products, and use a blending brush when blending eyeshadows together. Application brushes aren’t made for blending because they are flat-shaped with stiff bristles. Blending brushes are fluffy with tapered bristles, and they are a must-have when refining the look of your eye makeup. Another tip to know is that the area you place your blending brush (after dipping it in eyeshadow) in will receive the most color. Please guarantee that you place that brush in the outer corner of the eye before blending anywhere else. In other words, don’t place the blending brush first near your nose or it will have the opposite effect (not a good look).

5. Nighttime look: Make it more dramatic by adding a highlight color underneath your eyebrow and including a darker eyeshadow color in the crease. It’s so much fun when I can convert my ‘day look’ to a ‘night look’ because all I have to do is blend a dark brown, plum, or black color into the crease and dab a shimmery highlight color under the brow. It’s such a nice smoky eye makeup look for a night out with the girls. I also like to highlight the inner corners of my eyes by placing small dots of shimmer eyeshadow in the corners and blend outwards. Of course I never forget my false eyelashes – they are a must-have for nighttime!
