Teen Makeup Tips that are
easy to follow

At your age, the biggest advantage of teen makeup tips is that your facial features are so soft and delicate that you don’t need a lot of product on your face to look beautiful because you already are! Women are spending thousands of dollars per year to retain the supple, wrinkle-free skin that you already have, so consider yourself lucky. I’m going to tell you how to make the most of what you were born with, without looking too mature. You have many years before you have to consider the complex stuff, so let’s have some fun . . .

◈To achieve the perfect canvas, I suggest using a sheer powder as a foundation, unless you’re dealing with acne breakouts. In that case I think you should use concealer that matches your skin tone and provides medium-to-full coverage. Don’t forget to cover the concealer with sheer powder to disguise it. Failure to follow this teen makeup tip will result in spotty areas on your face that everyone can see. Stick foundations work well also.

◈When thinking about purchasing eyeshadows, try any of the different textures, such as powder, cream (best for dry skin), sparkly, or shimmer. When applying eyeshadows, I do suggest wearing only one eyeshadow to avoid looking overly made up. When you apply heavy or dark eye makeup to your delicate features, your look may be a bit overwhelming, so remember to apply lightly. The goal is to enhance your natural beauty and not cover it up.

When applying eyeshadow, apply one color all across the lid, but don’t extend up to the brow bone. Place the product along the lower portion of the eyelid up to the crease (the middle). Don’t worry if the application isn’t exactly perfect – mine never is. Take a small blending brush, and move it back and forth (like a windshield wiper) along the crease from one side to the other. This will create a soft, smooth effect along the crease area that is really pretty. Check out makeup brushes here!

◈For eyeliner, I suggest using dark colored eyeshadow with an angle brush. If you don’t have eyeshadow, then use a regular eyeliner pencil. Feel free to choose whatever color you want. Brown and black are always pretty, but I also think plum, and darker shades of blue and green are beautiful also. Apply the dark brown eyeshadow (or liner pencil) by smudging it across the lash line. Then take the angle brush, and trace over the line to smooth it out. This will leave you with a very sexy, smokey look that will make your eyes pop.

◈I believe that when it comes to eyebrows you should leave them alone if you have any doubts about what to do. Eyebrows are the “picture frames” of your face. The shape can either make or break your overall look. You will be much prettier if you keep your normal brows as opposed to overplucking them. If you want to clean them up a bit, you can start by tweezing the stray hairs, but always keep the natural shape of your brow. To tame those wild brow hairs, use clear brow gel or hairspray to hold them in place.

A great teen makeup tip to remember is if you want a more professional look, purchase a magazine and find a couple of pictures of a model that has an eyebrow shape that you want. Take those pictures to a professional, and have her duplicate the look for you, to avoid any mishaps.

◈Moving on to mascara . . . the best colors for you are dark brown, black, blue, green, and purple. This is one teen makeup tip that most girls totally forget about, but have as much fun with this as possible.

◈Let discuss blush basics . . . the easiest way to find your blush color is to go outside and exercise for 15-20 mins. Do you notice the color of your cheeks? That’s the color blush you want to purchase. I highly recommend sheertone blushes because the color is much softer and blends easily. If you have Black skin, stick to colors such as plum or bronze to enhance those cheeks. If you are Asian, Latina, or Indian, colors that look best on you are pink and rose.

If you are applying blush with a brush, tap off excess to avoid placing too much color on your cheek. Place the brush on the apples of your cheeks, blend in circular motion up into your hairline. Blending is a key ingredient in teen makeup tips! For creams and gels, dab a little product onto your fingers, and blend onto your cheek. Be sure to look at each side in the mirror to make sure it’s well blended, and wash your hands afterwards to avoid getting color on your clothes.

Lipstick and lipgloss are the fun part!! If you have full lips, and want to tone them down a bit, opt for warmer/darker colors. If you want to enhance thin lips, try lighter colors that are glossy. Just dab the color on your lips and spread evenly with your finger. If you’re determined to use a lip liner, use one that matches the color of your lipstick or lipgloss. If it’s too dark, you will look like you have a ring around your mouth, and that is not pretty. If it’s too light, it will fail to define your lips.

◈Oh I almost forgot the most critical teen makeup tip: Play up your eyes or your lips, but never both. If you want dramatic, sexy eyes, be sure to opt for a soft (or nude) lip. If you want bold color on the lips, then keep the eye makeup as soft as possible by wearing pastel colors.
